Effective cooling of the production hall – installation of air conditioning in Sękocin Nowy
In response to the urgent need to improve working conditions in the production hall in Sękocin, our team carried out a comprehensive installation of an air conditioning system. The project was designed with quick implementation, high cooling efficiency, scalability as needed, and the possibility of dismantling and relocating the equipment in the future in mind.
Technical challenges and heat sources
The main source of excessive heat in the hall was the packaging sealing machines – a total of nine devices, each generating approximately 6 kW of heat gain at an operating temperature set at around 140°C. The total heat gain was therefore approximately 54 kW. An additional factor contributing to overheating was the poorly insulated walls and roof of the building.
Due to the lack of data on the thermal parameters of the roof and the ventilation system, a temporary solution was chosen that did not require a long design process or expensive cooling infrastructure based on chilled water.
The solution implemented
Four independent Gree DUMP160I/UMP160O duct air conditioners with a total cooling capacity of 64 kW were installed. The units were mounted at a height of approximately 3 metres, which effectively separated the area where employees were present from the heated air accumulating under the roof.
Additionally, in the event of insufficient performance, provision has been made for the installation of an independent extraction system above each of the heating tunnels in the form of hoods on support structures.
Scope of work performed
The following was performed as part of the investment:
- Delivery and installation of four duct air conditioners,
- Installation of air supply ducts with pre-filters
- Support structures for indoor units and foundations for outdoor units,
- Condensate drainage installation,
- Installation of wall-mounted controllers and control system,
The electrical installation for powering the units (3-phase, 5*1.5 mm² cable) was prepared by the investor.
Flexibility and a forward-looking approach
The solution used is modular in nature – if necessary, it is possible to increase the number of cooling devices. Importantly, all components can be dismantled and used in another location, which makes this investment extremely flexible – especially in the context of the planned departure from the facility within the next two years.
Thanks to efficient implementation and the use of modern, high-performance equipment, it has been possible to significantly improve working conditions in the production hall. The investment was completed on schedule and the customer received full as-built documentation, including acceptance and adjustment reports for the installation. This is another example of the successful implementation of an air conditioning and ventilation system in demanding industrial conditions.
